Times are a changin' Birthdays post

Milo Atticus was born on my birthday six years ago today.   Milo was my second VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean)  and was born in Topeka at The Birth Center. We traveled an hour and fourtyfive minutes to Topeka from Salina to birth him there with Norla, my midwife.

Jaymon and I had such a lovely time birthing him with great food and company.  We walked and walked around parks and malls after our huge breakfast.  I remember I had french toast with lots of butter and maple syrup, eggs, and hashbrowns.  Its different when a midwife attends a birth.  They tell you to eat up as you will be marathoning it for the rest of the day and need the fuel.  There are no restrictions on food and drink throughout labor.  Just go with how you feel and what your body is telling you.

The best labor partner ever. This was the scene for hours.

I called in labor to work letting them know I wasn't going to make it in that day!   Labor was hard work but I  loved every minute of it. I kind of geek out about what mine and the baby's bodies are doing together and it makes the pain much more manageable.  Milo's gender was a surprise since I didn't need a sonogram, but I knew he would be a boy.

We had bought a giant supreme sub sandwich and apple juice while out that day trying to get labor going,  in preparation for eating after labor. I am so glad we did as I was famished.  Our nurse, Lori, hung out on the bed with us and we all talked and ate that awesome sandwich  for a couple of hours all taking turns holding baby Milo before we went our hotel room to get some rest.  Best. sandwich. ever!   Funny the things that have sentimental value.  That breakfast and sandwich gave me strength so I appreciate it.  It's what I needed.

Milo loves to ask where he was born and ask questions about his birth.  He was an excellent birthday present for me and barely made it being born at around 12:45 a.m.    I knew that he was my ticket to getting a birthday celebration every year for many years to come  :)

Odd years seem to trend more positive than evens for me.  My 34th year, last year, was rough.  This year is already much better.  Everyone else in my house are evens together.  I kind of like it that way.  We had cake the day before yesterday and today we are going to have an easter egg hunt in the backyard.  I have always loved having a spring birthday.

What am I planning for this year?......to learn, be happy, stay calm, and take care of my people.   I am a better person when I run and eat well.  Running, reading, hanging out with my peeps...life is good!
They key to my happiness?   Time.  I have time to do what makes me happy.  I love it.  No going to a job that I hate.  No more placing importance and priority on things that don't fulfill me.  Priorities are better aligned this year and I can feel it.

I want to stay relevant.  To stay in constant movement and do so in a mellow fashion.
Jaymon has been playing this song lately.....seems fitting to listen to it on a birthday.

Bob Dylan was before my time growing up but Eddie Vedder has had a big influence.  Both are timeless.

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come senators, congressman
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he who gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
You old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.

Happy birthday to the both of you!
I'm an old labor nurse, I LOVED working women through natural labor! Well done!
Love Eddie Vedder (and Dylan) - he's always singing me through my races.

Hey johnny5,
Hhhmmmm try reading again a little more carefully this time.   My husband is the superhero.  That sort of bit you in the ass Haha!
Thanks for the birthday wishes :)

Looks like someone was anxious to shoot off her reply.

But just ignore me -
my girlfriend is big into barefoot running and I saw this blog was up.

I was just a little bitter because she thinks she's that much tougher than me for running barefoot while I run with shoes on.

Johnny5,
You are a very fortunate man to have running to share with your loved one.

Thanks Angie.

I'll admit. Her feet are pretty tough. She put out a friend's cigarette on her heel.
It's kind of weird though because some of my friends (one in particular) are alittle too interested in her barefoot running.
